Rail ramp

Rail ramp is a rail-building structure used to extend railways over liquids and other non-buildable terrain. It is especially useful for crossing water on Nauvis, oil oceans on Fulgora, marshes on Gleba, and ammoniacal oceans on Aquilo without needing landfill or foundation.

The raised section of a rail ramp can be placed directly over these surfaces, letting rails continue across gaps that would otherwise block construction. After researching rail support foundations, rail supports and rail ramps can also be placed over Fulgora’s deep oil oceans. The first 4 tiles of the ramp must still be placed on solid ground, so the structure always needs a valid land connection at one end.

Because of that placement rule, rail ramps are most valuable at shorelines and narrow land edges. They are particularly handy in cramped areas such as the small vault islands on Fulgora, where conserving space and avoiding landfill is important.
