Amethyst

Amethyst is a crafting material used to make Crystal weapons, armor, and ammo. It is part of the Crystal biome resource chain and is one of the key materials obtained from crystal formations found in Desert Caves.

The most reliable source of Amethyst is the large crystal growths in Crystal biomes. Each large crystal drops several Amethysts when mined, while small crystals have a chance to drop one as well. Amethyst can also appear during any Crystal Incursion, making those events another useful way to gather it. In addition, miners sent out on Mining trips for Quartz can sometimes bring back Amethysts, so it may also arrive as an incidental mining reward rather than something gathered directly by the player.

Because Amethyst is a crafting material rather than a finished tool or weapon, its value is tied to progression through Crystal-related equipment. Players who want to build Crystal gear should prioritize exploring Desert Caves in Crystal biomes and mining every crystal cluster they find. Large crystals are especially important, since they provide the bulk of the material and are the most dependable source. Small crystals are still worth breaking along the way, since they can occasionally add extra Amethysts without much effort.

• Mine large crystal formations first, since they provide multiple Amethysts at once.
• Break small crystals too, as they sometimes drop one Amethyst.
• Watch for Crystal Incursions if you want another source of the material.
• Send miners on Quartz trips if you want a passive chance to receive additional Amethysts.
