Multiplayer: Play Online with Friends Guide
Multiplayer in ASTRONEER is built around joining another player’s session, coordinating through platform tools, and using vehicles that can carry more than one person. It is also one of the fastest ways to explore and build together, especially once a group has a shared base and transport.
Joining other players
Xbox and Windows 10 crossplay
To invite another player, use the Xbox Party function in the Windows Xbox app or on Xbox. Once they accept, they are redirected into your game.
A connected player can tell they have joined successfully when they see a small house icon on the planet.
For Xbox and Windows 10 crossplay, the most reliable setup is for the Xbox player to host and invite the PC player. If joining fails, both players should restart their systems.
Steam
Steam users can only join the games of players who are on their Steam friends list. One player starts a game, then the others use Steam’s join interface to enter the session.
This feature does not work reliably for many players.
Finding other players
The official Astroneer Discord has a #player_search channel for finding multiplayer partners. Post your platform in the channel and other players can reply to you there.
Multiplayer vehicles
Rover seating matters in multiplayer because it determines who drives and how many players can ride together.
- Rover Seat: required to drive the rover.
- Large Rover Seat: allows more passengers in multiplayer. The first player to enter the seat becomes the driver.
