Transport belt capacity

Overview

The game distinguishes belt types by their base item-rate at capacity 1. The base rates and resulting throughputs at capacities 1–4 are:
Belt type with base rate 15 items/second: capacity 1 = 15 items/s, capacity 2 = 30 items/s, capacity 3 = 45 items/s, capacity 4 = 60 items/s.
Belt type with base rate 30 items/second: capacity 1 = 30 items/s, capacity 2 = 60 items/s, capacity 3 = 90 items/s, capacity 4 = 120 items/s.
Belt type with base rate 45 items/second: capacity 1 = 45 items/s, capacity 2 = 90 items/s, capacity 3 = 135 items/s, capacity 4 = 180 items/s.
Belt type with base rate 60 items/second: capacity 1 = 60 items/s, capacity 2 = 120 items/s, capacity 3 = 180 items/s, capacity 4 = 240 items/s.
Increasing transport belt capacity multiplies how many item groups a belt can carry, directly increasing the belt’s maximum throughput without changing belt speed.
Higher capacity levels are applied uniformly to all belt variants; a belt’s throughput at a given capacity equals its base rate multiplied by the capacity factor (1×, 2×, 3×, or 4×).
Use increased capacity to reduce the number of parallel belts required for a given throughput or to improve throughput on existing belt lines without replacing belts.
