Overview

Cheese is a Fine Food item that can be consumed by the player or given to NPCs as food. It is a straightforward utility item rather than a combat consumable, but it is valuable for both survival and settlement management because it provides a strong long-duration buff and a notable happiness boost.

When eaten by the player, Cheese grants +20 Max Health for 8 minutes. This makes it useful before exploring dangerous areas, fighting bosses, or taking on any activity where extra survivability matters. Because the effect lasts a long time, it is easy to prepare ahead of time and keep the bonus active during extended trips away from base. Unlike many temporary bonuses, this one is simple and reliable: it does not require special timing beyond eating it before a fight or expedition.

When consumed by NPCs, Cheese gives +20% Happiness. That makes it especially useful in settlements where keeping residents content matters, since happier NPCs contribute to a more stable and efficient base. If you have excess Cheese, it can be used as a practical way to improve NPC satisfaction rather than being reserved only for player use.

Cheese has a spoilage time of 8 hours, so it is not meant to sit in storage forever. If you are stocking food for long-term use, keep its limited shelf life in mind and rotate it before it expires. Since it is a Fine Food item, it fills a useful niche between ordinary food and more specialized consumables: it can be saved for a worthwhile health buff, or diverted to NPCs when happiness is the higher priority.

  • Player effect: +20 Max Health for 8 minutes
  • NPC effect: +20% Happiness
  • Spoilage time: 8 hours
  • Category: Fine Food item

Cheese is therefore best treated as a flexible consumable with two solid uses: pre-fight health enhancement for the player, and happiness support for NPCs in a settlement.
