Early Game Guide - Efficient Start, Rune Tree & 3-Hero Core

The early game sets the pace for Task Bar Hero: it’s where you unlock automation, your party size, and the systems that let the game scale while you step away. Focus on unlocking hero slots, getting basic automation (auto-open chests), stabilizing a 3‑hero team, and using the Cube to turn duplicate gear into gold for Rune investment.

First minutes: class choice and immediate actions

  • Pick a starter you understand. Knight is the safest learning tank; Ranger clears waves faster and earns gold quicker. Either is valid — Ranger accelerates gold for Runes if you prefer a faster economy.
  • Enable Auto‑retry in settings so failed stages automatically attempt again.
  • Manually open chests during the earliest session. Chest loot and materials are your primary progression in the first hours; auto‑open comes later from the Rune Tree.
  • Equip every piece of better gear you find. Do not prioritize fusing/synthesis early — save gold for Rune progression.

Rune Tree priority (the single most important early system)

  • Unlock the Rune Tree as soon as you hit its requirement (level 3). The Rune Tree unlocks party slots, auto‑open chests, inventory, offline rewards, and extra skill slots.
  • Early Rune priority:
    1. Rune of Command (second and third hero slots) — rushing the third slot is the biggest early power spike.
    2. Far North automation / Auto-open chest — enables true AFK progression.
    3. Gold and EXP nodes — accelerate all future purchases and upgrades.
    4. Offline rewards and then extra skill slot (Rune of Awakening), especially useful for Priest.
  • Spend gold on Runes first, not minor stat bumps.

Team composition: get to three heroes fast

  • Aim to unlock and field three heroes ASAP. Three heroes drastically increases damage, chest drops, and XP per minute.
  • Recommended beginner compositions:
    • Knight (front) + Priest (back) + Ranger (back) — works well for idle and general progression.
    • Knight + Priest + Ranger is widely trusted; Priest’s party heal/buff (Blessing of Strength) provides a big power boost.
    • If you prefer active play, Hunter or Slayer variants can replace one slot later, but build the core Knight/Priest/Ranger first.
  • If you start with Ranger alone, add Priest as your second hero when you unlock the slot; the Ranger+Priest duo is a strong early gold farm pair.

Rune funding & Cube usage

  • The Cube unlocks at level 4. Early on switch Cube to Alchemy to convert duplicate whites/greens into gold rather than spending on synthesis.
  • Use Alchemy to fund the Rune nodes you prioritized (especially hero slots). Lock important items (Alt + Left Click) before auto‑filling in Alchemy.
  • Don’t perform synthesis/fusion until you have the third slot and key runes; only begin meaningful synthesis when you have spare gold and stable inventory.

Stage progression and farming strategy

  • Clear each Act on Normal before pushing to higher difficulties. Fully completing Act Normal gives stable gear and avoids steep difficulty walls.
  • If stuck on a stage, use the Portal to go back to earlier stages and farm gear, gold, and levels. The game is built around this loop.
  • Let an efficient duo/trio farm a comfortable stage repeatedly — Ranger + Priest (or Knight + Priest + Ranger) is ideal for gold and chest generation while AFK.
  • Prioritize stages that give the materials you need and allow comfortable skipping once automation is set up.

Automation & playstyle tips

  • Auto‑open chest rune is critical: while early chests must be opened manually, unlocking auto‑open lets you safely minimize and let the game run.
  • Offline rewards are helpful but note: some rewards (like certain chests) require being online to collect; plan important chest farming while active.
  • Enable Rune nodes that increase gold per kill and boss gold early to snowball Rune purchases.

Combat and class role basics (early practical notes)

  • Frontline: tank (Knight) so the backline can dish damage.
  • Backline: DPS (Ranger/Archer) and support (Priest). Ranger provides fast consistent DPS; Priest keeps the frontline alive and buffs party damage.
  • Formations: start with a 1-front, 2-backline formation and only experiment once you understand mechanics. Match item affixes to class needs (attack speed for Rogues, spell power for casters, etc.).

Act-specific and act-progression guidance

  • Act 1 is the training ground: use it to learn classes and unlock the pet and basic rewards.
  • Act 2 introduces elemental counters and more complex enemy patterns; start preparing elemental coverage before pushing.
  • Act 3 is where Cube min‑maxing and deeper synthesis matter; postpone aggressive synthesis until you have the rune foundations and three hero slots.
  • Clear an Act on Normal before pursuing Hard; jumping difficulties prematurely causes steep walls.

Practical early checklist (first 0–10 hours)

  • Hour 0–1: Install, claim free Priest DLC (if available), choose Knight or Ranger, and clear Act 1 Normal stages.
  • Hour 1–3: Reach level 3 Rune Tree. Unlock second hero slot, add Priest, and prioritize auto‑open chest rune.
  • Hour 3–6: Unlock Cube (level 4) and use Alchemy to fund Runes. Save gold for the third hero slot; aim to unlock it as soon as possible.
  • Hour 6–10: Field a three‑hero comp, raise Cube synthesis level only after Rune priorities are done, and comfortably clear Act 1 Hard before Act 2.

By locking down the Rune priorities, getting to three heroes, using the Cube for Alchemy, and farming a comfortable stage with a Knight/Priest/Ranger core, you convert the early grind into a reliable ramp toward automation and mid‑game systems.
