Runic Crate

Runic Crate is a key crate found throughout the facility in hard-to-miss and hidden locations. It cannot be obtained through Crafting and must be located in the world, often tucked behind progression gates or placed in side areas off the main route. Some examples include the Encroachment, where it sits past a blue archway on a floating platform beside a Glow Tulip, and the Reactors, where it appears in sewers, reactor access corridors, and other tucked-away rooms.

A GATE Defense Rune is required to unlock and open a Runic Crate. Once opened, it can be looted for a fixed set of materials and rare items, including Defunct Shield Generators, Arcane Scrap, Lodestone Fragments, repair kits, Imbued Parchment, and occasional bonus drops such as a Human Skull or Lodestone. The Defunct Shield Generator is the standout reward, since it is guaranteed. After unlocking, the crate can also be packaged and reused as a storage container, giving it the same storage capacity as a Storage Crate (Large) and the same radiation shielding as a Hazard Crate.

Known locations include:

• Past a blue archway, on a floating platform next to a Glow Tulip in the Encroachment.
• Within the Power Services sewer, which requires Antethermite to access.
• Further down the Power Services sewer, to the right of the first crate.
• Behind the Unlost Camp.
• In Power Services, beside the apartment building where the hydropipe is located.
• Within the Dusk Reactor, past the glass door in the atrium with a blue hand marking on the wall.
• Past the blast doors at the Cloud Reactor tram station.
• Next to the doorway into the Mist Reactor, within the flora.
• In the room behind the bot charging pod in the Mist Reactor pool room.
• In a smaller room near the curved glass doors that require a Keypad Hacker (Tier 5) in the Mist Reactor.

Runic Crates are more spacious than the other key crates, making them especially useful once opened and repurposed as storage. Their combination of locked loot, rare crafting materials, and reusable utility makes them worth opening whenever a GATE Defense Rune is available.
