Clay

Clay is an unrefined resource found on all of the planets. It is a common soil-processing and trading material, and can be obtained either by refining Soil or by exchanging Scrap at a Trade Platform.

The most direct way to produce Clay is with a Soil Centrifuge, which yields 6 Clay from two full Small Canisters of Soil. Clay can also be acquired through the Trade Platform, which gives 2 Clay per Scrap, up to 8 Clay for 4 Scrap in a single trade. This makes it a flexible early- and mid-game resource, especially when soil is plentiful or Scrap is being farmed.
