Mushrooms

Mushrooms are a cooking ingredient used in Core Keeper recipes. Like other cooking ingredients, they can be combined with additional ingredients to improve the final effect of a dish. They belong to the same broad item group as foods and other culinary materials, but their main role is to serve as a recipe component rather than a finished meal.

In practice, mushrooms are most useful when you are experimenting with cooking combinations. Because cooking ingredients can be mixed with other ingredients to enhance their effects, mushrooms are worth keeping instead of immediately discarding if you plan to cook later. They fit naturally into the game’s food system, where finished foods restore hunger and may also grant temporary buffs.

When managing mushrooms, it helps to treat them as a flexible crafting resource:

• Save mushrooms for cooking if you are building up a stock of ingredients for future recipes.
• Combine them with other ingredients to support stronger or more specialized food effects.
• Do not confuse them with finished foods, since foods are the items that directly restore hunger.
• As with other ingredient-type items, their value comes from what they contribute to a recipe rather than from being used on their own.

Mushrooms are part of the wider item ecosystem alongside consumables such as potions, which restore health or grant buffs, and other utility items like scanners, keys, containers, and boss-summoning items. Their role is much narrower than those categories: they are primarily a cooking material, and their usefulness comes from how they interact with the food system.
