Noxious Meteor Staff

A tainted staff laced with corroding blight. It sizzles with embittered energies that rain down a dense drop of toxin.
Overview
The Noxious Meteor Staff is an epic staff that calls down a meteor-like projectile at the cursor’s location. After being summoned, the projectile hovers briefly for about a second before crashing into the ground and exploding. This makes it a delayed-impact weapon rather than an instant hit spell, so successful use depends on placing the target where enemies are expected to be rather than where they are standing at the moment of casting.
Because the projectile falls at the cursor position, the staff is best used against enemies with predictable movement, in confined spaces, or when they are already slowed, cornered, or otherwise occupied. It can also be effective for area denial, since the visible delay gives enemies a short window to move before the impact. Good timing is important when fighting faster enemies, as they may leave the blast zone before the meteor lands.
One important detail is that the explosion does not deal explosives damage. This affects how the staff interacts with systems that care about explosive damage and means it should be evaluated as its own kind of attack rather than as a conventional bomb-like effect. In practice, this makes the Noxious Meteor Staff a magical ranged weapon with an explosion-themed impact, not a source of explosive damage for purposes that specifically check that damage type.
A few practical points:
- Aim ahead of moving targets, not directly on top of them, unless they are already trapped or slowed.
- The short hover time can be used to catch enemies as they enter a chokepoint.
- Since the attack lands at the cursor, it is useful for striking enemies from safety without requiring direct contact.
- The explosion’s visual warning means the staff rewards prediction and positioning more than rapid reaction.
