Snail

Overview
The Snail is a fish that can be caught using a Crab Pot in any freshwater body of water. It can also be received as a gift from a cat with maximum friendship, and may occasionally appear at the Traveling Cart. Like other crab pot catches, it cannot be eaten directly unless it is used in a cooking recipe or smoked.
One Snail is included in the Community Center Fish Tank once it is repaired. It is also used outside of fishing progression in a few crafting and dyeing roles: Snail can be placed in the Sewing Machine spool to create the Rain Coat, and it works as a yellow dye item at the dye pots in Emily and Haley’s house.
In a Fish Pond, Snails reproduce every 2 days. A pond starts with a capacity of 3, and can be expanded to 10 by completing three quests. The pond most often produces yellow Snail Roe, though it can also output Green Algae and several trash items, with more valuable items becoming possible once the population reaches 5.
- At 3 fish, the pond quest may request 5 Clay or 15 Fiber to raise capacity to 5.
- At 5 fish, the quest may request 10 Bug Meat, 1 Cave Carrot, or 5 Hardwood to raise capacity to 7.
- At 7 fish, the quest may request 1 Field Snack, 5 Solar Essence, or 1 Wild Bait to raise capacity to 10.
Pond outputs scale with population. Roe is the main product and grants the most Fishing XP among the standard pond outputs, while trash, Green Algae, Driftwood, Broken Glasses, Broken CD, and Soggy Newspaper are also possible. Mixed Seeds can appear once the pond is more populated, and at high population the pond can also produce a Warp Totem: Mountains. The chance of getting nothing decreases as the pond fills, but empty output remains common even at maximum capacity.
Snail pond requests can also appear in other quest chains. Bullhead or Largemouth Bass may request one Snail as part of a Fish Pond quest to increase capacity from 7 to 10. The Raccoon may request five Snail as part of its first request or in sixth and later requests.
