Jester Cap

Jester Cap is a placeable item used to trap certain small creatures for taming. It can be obtained by salvaging Briefcases, Radio Packs, Rat Suits, and Rat Packs at a Repair and Salvage Station, and it is also dropped by the Sow Peccary and the Bogman.

When placed on the ground, Jester Cap can be used to trap Pests, Electro-Pests, Volatile Pests, Snow Pests, and Skinks. If a tamable creature walks onto its path, it will enter the Jester Cap and become trapped. Even when it is not directly in their path, nearby creatures may notice it, approach it, and then be caught in the same way. Once a creature is trapped, it can be tamed by feeding it 3 Nachos or 3 Anteverse Wheat. A successfully tamed creature can then be released without becoming hostile, and the player can give it a name and issue movement commands, including ordering it to follow the player or return to the trap.

Releasing a creature before taming it causes it to resume its normal hostile behavior toward the player character. Pets can also be fed additional Nachos or Anteverse Wheat after taming. One notable quirk is that Skink (Weapon) does not currently retain its name after being picked up.

The item had a crafting-recipe bug after the Dark Energy update and before hotfix 0.10.0.15406, during which an incorrect material appeared in its recipe.
