Scorching Aegis

The crust of molten rock, formed to be wielded like a shield.
Overview
The Scorching Aegis is an epic shield. It is a defensive weapon designed around punishment rather than simple mitigation: when it successfully blocks an attack, it creates an explosion centered on the player that damages all enemies within approximately 1.5 tiles.
This makes the Scorching Aegis especially useful in close-range combat, where enemies are likely to cluster around the player. A well-timed block can turn an incoming hit into an area attack, letting the shield contribute damage while still fulfilling its primary defensive role. Because the explosion originates from the player, it is most effective when foes are nearby and grouped together.
- The explosion triggered by a block does not damage tiles.
- Its area of effect is limited, so it is most valuable against enemies standing very close to the player.
- Since the effect occurs on a successful block, its value depends on timing and on actually receiving attacks that can be blocked.
