Overview

Construction robot is a flying logistic entity that carries items and performs construction- and repair-related tasks within a logistic network. Construction robots repair damaged entities using Repair pack, replace destroyed entities when matching items are available in provider chests or storage chests, remove entities marked with the deconstruction planner and transport the resulting items into storage chests, and build entities marked by a Blueprint or placed as ghosts by fetching required items from the logistic network. They fetch items from the nearest logistic chest and do not prioritize pickup based on chest type; a construction robot will not remove items from a requester chest to fulfill its own orders.

Construction robots can deconstruct environmental objects such as Raw fish and trees. Cliffs can be deconstructed only if the construction robot has access to cliff explosives stocked in a provider chest, a storage chest, or the player’s inventory. If a requester or buffer chest has an unfulfilled logistics request for an item produced by deconstruction, construction robots will prioritize placing the deconstructed item directly into those chests.

Construction robots carry up to four items at once depending on the researched Worker robot cargo size. They may use carried items to build up to four tiles at once but can only construct one entity at a time. Research that affects Logistic robot performance—specifically Worker robot cargo size and Worker robot speed—also applies to construction robots; increasing speed raises robot energy consumption. Construction robots take their items from the closest logistic chest and do not have the chest-type pickup prioritization that Logistic robots use.

Construction robots do not defend themselves or flee when encountering enemies. They frequently operate at the front and are therefore at high risk of being destroyed. Despite being airborne, they can be destroyed by ground melee units and can be damaged by area effects such as flamethrower fire. They are also valid targets of enemy spawners that attack nearby flying robots.

Practical notes:

  • Ensure provider and storage chests are stocked with necessary parts and explosives for planned builds or cliff deconstruction.
  • Use requester/buffer chests with logistics requests to have deconstruction products routed directly into active supply lines.
  • Research Worker robot cargo size to increase how many items construction robots carry and Worker robot speed to make them build faster (at the cost of greater energy use).
  • Construction robots will build ghosts placed on water only if the player has Landfill in their inventory and the network supplies the required items.
