Sand

Overview
Sand is a basic floor block used as terrain and construction surface. It appears as a natural ground tile and functions primarily as passable terrain for units and as foundation for building placement. Sand does not provide any special resource generation or bonuses and is treated as a plain floor type in gameplay.
Sand commonly appears across maps as widespread ground coverage and is one of the default floor tiles that structures and conveyors can be placed upon. It does not block movement, does not damage units, and does not interact with fluids or heat in any special way beyond acting as ordinary terrain. Sand can be replaced by player-placed blocks (turrets, conveyors, factories, cores, etc.) without additional requirements beyond the normal build costs and space rules.
Practical notes and interactions:
- Sand is fully buildable: any block that can be placed on flat terrain can be built on sand provided there is no conflicting tile or object.
- Sand serves as a neutral visual and pathing surface; it does not confer speed bonuses or penalties to units and does not alter turret line-of-sight or firing rules.
- In editor and sandbox modes sand is useful for creating flat, featureless areas for testing blueprints and layouts.
- Sand does not produce items, liquids, heat, or power. Any production or resource needs must be supplied by player-built structures.
- Replace sand with specialized floor blocks (conduits, surge platforms, or reinforced floor) when you need durability, specific interaction with liquids, or improved pathing maintenance under heavy traffic.
