Swamp Tome

The Swamp Tome is a magic weapon found in swamp cave chests. It fires a slow projectile that bounces and penetrates targets, but the projectile despawns after hitting 2 enemies or after 2 hits. Because of this combination of bounce and penetration, it is especially effective against the Swamp Guardian.

The weapon is tied to the Swamp Biome’s cave layer, which must be reached by crafting a Cave Ladder or by entering from an adjacent biome’s cave, since the Swamp Biome itself has no cave entrance. Swamp caves are also separate from the biome’s surface content, where the area does not have a village like other biomes, though it can contain a Witch hut. That makes the Swamp Tome one of the more notable rewards for exploring the biome’s underground chests.

In practice, the Swamp Tome rewards careful aim more than raw firing speed. Its slow shot speed can make it harder to use against agile enemies, but the projectile’s ability to bounce and pierce gives it strong value in narrow caves or against grouped targets. Against the Swamp Guardian in particular, its behavior makes it a strong choice when you can keep the projectile active long enough to take advantage of the extra hits.
