Animal Keeper

The Animal Keeper can be found in Villages and can be recruited after defeating the Void Wizard. Once recruited, they become a settler who can be assigned regular work and also serve as a source of domesticated animals for your settlement.

When visiting your settlement, an Animal Keeper may sell common domesticated animals, including Pigs and Boars, which are not available in the wild. Animals bought from an Animal Keeper are already tame when purchased and come with a free Rope. When recruited from a village, they always ask for coins, though wool or leather may also be requested as part of the recruit cost.

The Animal Keeper is the only settler that performs husbandry work. In husbandry zones, they will milk, shear, or slaughter animals as needed. They can also handle hauling, crafting, forestry, and farming tasks, making them one of the more flexible settlers once hired.

To make use of their slaughtering behavior, you must first set a maximum number of animals to keep in a husbandry zone. This is done by left-clicking the highlighted zone while in the assign work tab of the settlement management screen. Any excess animals beyond that limit will be slaughtered automatically.

• Best used in a dedicated husbandry setup, since their unique animal-related work cannot be replicated by other settlers.
• Their ability to sell already-tamed animals makes them especially useful for starting or expanding a livestock stock without additional taming work.
• Because they can also do hauling, crafting, forestry, and farming, they can remain productive even when husbandry tasks are finished.
