Overview

The Pawnbroker is a traveling NPC who visits player settlements from time to time and functions as a flexible buyer for nearly any item the player wants to sell. They can purchase any item, making them useful for clearing out excess loot, old gear, crafting materials, and other surplus inventory without needing to wait for a specialized merchant.

Item value is affected by enchantments: equipment or items with an enchantment modifier may sell for more or less depending on that modifier. This makes the Pawnbroker especially relevant when dealing with enchanted gear, since the modifier can change the amount of coin received. For details on how modifiers influence item value, see Enchanting.

Starting in version 0.32, the Pawnbroker can no longer be recruited. Pawnbrokers that were recruited before that version remain in place, but new ones cannot be added as settlement residents. Even without recruitment, they can still be found in NPC villages, where they appear as part of the world rather than as a permanent settlement service.

  • They buy any item from the player.
  • Enchantment modifiers can raise or lower the selling price.
  • They are no longer recruitable as of version 0.32.
  • Previously recruited Pawnbrokers remain in settlements.
  • They still appear in NPC villages.
