Official description

A basic production building. Utilizes heat to make Products.

Overview

Furnace is a basic production building that utilizes heat to make Products. It is a Level 4 reward from the Selenian Corporation in the Corporate Terminal. The Furnace's default foundation footprint is 3W x 4L, with an alternate 4W x 4L footprint available for the version 2 upgrade. Because Furnace v.2 is one block wider, leaving a one-block gap between adjacent basic Furnaces can simplify upgrading a production line without having to dismantle neighboring buildings.

The Furnace processes raw inputs into intermediate and refined components on short cycle times, making it a core station for mid-tier manufacturing. It accepts a variety of inputs (bars, sheets, powders, fluids and small assemblies) and produces items used by higher-tier assemblers and fabricators. Cycle durations are typically between 2 and 5 seconds, yielding throughput measured in items per minute as indicated below.

  • Wolfram Powder: input 1 Wolfram Bar → output 3 Wolfram Powder; duration 2 seconds; rate 90/min.
  • Calcium Powder: input 1 Calcium Block → output 3 Calcium Powder; duration 3 seconds; rate 60/min.
  • Ceramics: inputs 1 Calcite Sheets, 1 Wolfram Powder → output 2 Ceramics; duration 2 seconds; rate 60/min.
  • Titanium Housing: inputs 1 Titanium Beam, 2 Titanium Sheet → output 1 Titanium Housing; duration 2 seconds; rate 30/min.
  • Glass: inputs 1 Helium-3, 2 Calcium Powder → output 1 Glass; duration 3 seconds; rate 20/min.
  • Inductor: inputs 2 Tube, 1 Wolfram Wire, 2 Ceramics → output 2 Inductor; duration 4 seconds; rate 30/min.
  • Heat Resistant Sheet: inputs 1 Wolfram Plate, 2 Titanium Sheet, 1 Glass → output 1 Heat Resistant Sheet; duration 4 seconds; rate 15/min.
  • Synthetic Silicon: inputs 2 Calcium Powder, 1 Helium-3, 2 Ceramics → output 2 Synthetic Silicon; duration 2 seconds; rate 60/min.
  • Electronics: inputs 2 Synthetic Silicon, 1 Inductor, 1 Stator → output 1 Electronics; duration 5 seconds; rate 12/min.
  • Chemicals: inputs 1 Synthetic Silicon, 3 Wolfram Powder, 1 Helium-3 → output 2 Chemicals; duration 2 seconds; rate 60/min.
  • Hardening Agent: inputs 5 Sulfuric Acid, 1 Synthetic Silicon, 1 Applicator → output 2 Hardening Agent; duration 4 seconds; rate 30/min.
  • Supermagnet: inputs 4 Sulfuric Acid, 4 Wolfram Plate, 1 Chemicals → output 1 Supermagnet; duration 3 seconds; rate 20/min.

Practical notes:

  • Plan factory layout to accommodate the 3x4 base size or the 4x4 alternate size when placing multiple Furnaces in a production cell.
  • Leave a one-block gap between basic Furnaces if you intend to upgrade to Furnace v.2 later; this prevents spatial conflicts caused by the wider foundation of the upgraded unit.
  • Match input feed rates and conveyor capacities to the Furnace cycle times to avoid bottlenecks; several recipes produce multiple outputs per cycle, increasing outbound throughput.
  • Use Furnaces to produce intermediate materials (powders, ceramics, synthetics, glass) needed by advanced assemblers and fabricators.
