Overview

Caveling Skull is an item that increases the player’s armor by 0.5% per level, up to a maximum bonus of 50% at level 100. It is tied to crafting progression, so its effect scales as the player gains crafting experience from producing items at crafting stations.

Crafting experience is earned whenever items are crafted. The amount of experience awarded depends on the ingredients used in the recipe, specifically the number of ingredients that sell for at least a set threshold; if a recipe has none of those ingredients, it defaults to granting experience as if it used 2 qualifying ingredients. This means the item’s power is not fixed, but improves steadily as the player continues to craft. Recipes that output multiple items, such as bridges, only award crafting experience once per craft, even if several pieces are produced. Trading with the Seasonal Merchant also grants crafting experience, because the game treats that merchant as a crafting station internally.

The item therefore rewards regular use of the crafting system rather than combat alone. Players who want to increase the armor bonus quickly should focus on repeatedly crafting inexpensive, repeatable recipes at stations, especially when they can do so in large batches. Since the bonus grows linearly with level, even early progress provides a small but noticeable defensive benefit, while the full upgrade turns it into a strong long-term armor boost.

  • Crafting more items raises the item’s level and therefore its armor bonus.
  • Multi-output recipes only grant experience once per craft.
  • Trading with the Seasonal Merchant also counts for crafting experience.
  • At level 100, the armor bonus reaches its cap of 50%.
