Giant Mushroom

The Giant Mushroom is a consumable found in the Undergrounds, usually as the centerpiece of a special scene surrounded by a large cluster of normal Mushrooms. It can be eaten to permanently increase the player’s maximum health, making it one of the more valuable natural food items in the early underground biomes.

Although it is most commonly encountered as part of this mushroom scene, a Giant Mushroom can also generate on its own outside of the scene. Because the Undergrounds and Clay Caves have limited space, the scene does not appear in every world, so finding one is not guaranteed. When it does generate, it is worth checking carefully for the surrounding mushrooms as well.

The Giant Mushroom can be cooked with other foods, but cooking does not increase the maximum health bonus it grants. In practice, it is usually simpler to eat it raw rather than spend it in a recipe, since the permanent health increase is the main reason to collect it.
