Official description

Uses fluoroketone with fusion power cells to make plasma.

Overview

Fusion reactor is a late-game power item used together with fusion generators to produce electricity from plasma. Like nuclear reactors, it gains a neighbour bonus from adjacent operating reactors, but the requirement is different: a connected reactor only needs to share one fluid connection to grant the bonus. Connecting two outputs to the same reactor does not give any additional benefit.

Each linked reactor increases the energy potential of the generated plasma by 100%, raising the plasma temperature by the same amount. With no bonus, the plasma is generated at 1 million °C; with a 100% bonus, it is 2 million °C, and so on. Different reactors in the same array can produce plasma at different temperatures, and the temperatures average out within the plasma fluid system. Fusion generators then generate power based on the heat of the plasma they consume, up to 50 MW per generator.

The reactor’s cold fluoroketone consumption does not change with neighbour bonus and remains 4/s per reactor, modified by quality. This means adjacent reactors do not increase coolant draw per reactor; they only raise the plasma temperature and therefore the possible power output. Larger reactor arrays require more fluoroketone in the overall system simply because there are more pipes and more connected machines, not because each reactor consumes more per second.

Practical layout notes:

  • Reactors have 2 fluid connections on each side, so the highest practical neighbour bonus while still leaving room to insert fusion power cells is +500%.
  • A single reactor can support 2 generators for 100 MW, 8 generators for 400 MW, 18 generators for 900 MW, and 28 generators for 1400 MW at the listed ratios.
  • Since generators scale with plasma heat, reactor placement matters: more well-connected reactors produce hotter plasma and allow the generator network to reach higher output.
