Overview

Concrete is a placeable floor item used to pave large areas for faster movement and cleaner base layouts. It is placed by selecting the Concrete item and using the place action; the placement area can be increased and decreased with the plus and minus keys on the numeric keypad. When Concrete is placed over another type of path, the previous path is automatically removed and returned to the player's inventory.

Concrete can be removed and recovered by using the deconstruction/collect action while holding any kind of path item. This makes replacing or updating roads simple: placing Concrete over existing paving will automatically collect the old tiles, and deliberate removal returns the tile to the inventory.

An alternative production method exists under the name Concrete from molten iron. That alternative recipe is produced in the Foundry and is available alongside the default crafting recipe. The Foundry provides a fixed 50% productivity bonus to its outputs, and Foundry recipes can accept productivity modules in addition to that fixed bonus.

Practical notes:

  • The placement area shown on the map while Concrete is selected corresponds to the highlighted green region; adjust its size with the numpad + and - controls to paint larger or smaller swaths at once.
  • Placing Concrete on top of another path type automatically mines the old path and places the new Concrete in its stead, so you do not lose the previous tiles when repaving.
  • The alternative Foundry recipe "Concrete from molten iron" allows mass production using molten iron processes; use the Foundry to benefit from its built-in productivity bonus and enable productivity modules on that recipe.
  • Concrete is commonly used to speed up belt and vehicle movement across factory surfaces and to reduce visual clutter from dirt and rubble.
  • Related floor types and upgrades include Stone brick, Hazard concrete, Refined concrete, and Refined hazard concrete, which serve as alternate paving options for different visual styles or performance characteristics.
