Water

Overview
Water is the standard liquid resource found in bodies of water on the map and appears in variants including shallow water. Shallow water is a walkable, lighter-colored variant of Water that can appear alongside or in place of standard Water. Buildings cannot be placed directly on shallow water, but
Shallow water appears in two lighter blue shades than standard Water. The mildly lighter shade reduces the player’s walking speed by 30% and the moderately lighter shade reduces it by 20%. The movement-speed reduction from shallow water applies to the player and to wheeled and tracked vehicles; it does not affect enemies or the spidertron. Shallow water is not produced by the default map generator in the base game and therefore occurs only in the tutorial there. On the Space Age mod’s planets,
Water can become polluted in areas exposed to Pollution; polluted Water is visually distinct in the game and appears in gallery images showing contamination. The fluid system and the electricity system interact with Water in gameplay contexts such as pumping, transport and processing.
- Shallow water can be walked on but cannot host buildings unless filled with Landfill.
- Landfill can be placed on shallow water to create land suitable for construction and for placing offshore pump outlets where shallow water meets land.
- Two visual shades of shallow water indicate different walking-speed penalties: roughly −30% and −20% to player movement speed.
- Movement penalties from shallow water affect player and wheeled/tracked vehicles; enemies and spidertron are unaffected.
- In the base game, shallow water only appears in the tutorial; in Space Age, Gleba naturally generates abundant shallow water.
- Water can be polluted by Pollution sources; polluted Water behaves as a visual and environmental consequence of contamination.
