Overview

Low density structure is a late-game item used as a component for building rocket parts and satellites for space launches. In the base game, each rocket part requires 10 low density structures, so a complete rocket (50 parts) consumes 500 low density structures; however, an entire completed rocket launch requires 1,000 low density structures because 10 low density structures are required for each rocket part and there are two layers of accounting for parts in a finished rocket assembly. Additionally, launching with a satellite requires 100 low density structures per satellite.

The Space Age expansion alters those requirements and production behaviour. In Space Age, each rocket part requires only 1 low density structure, so a complete rocket (50 parts) consumes 50 low density structures per launch. Space Age also introduces a research called low density structure productivity that grants a productivity bonus to any production of this item, increasing effective output from factories that craft low density structures.

  • Plan production capacity around the chosen game mode: in the base game scale factories to meet very high demand (thousands per launch cycle); in Space Age the raw demand per launch drops dramatically.
  • Research low density structure productivity (Space Age) to reduce the effective raw crafting cost by increasing produced output per craft run.
  • When calculating long-term resource needs and logistics, include the 100 low density structures required for each satellite in addition to the rocket part requirements for launches.
