Pirate Captain
Overview
The Pirate Captain is a hostile pirate boss-like mob that appears during the pirate encounter. He will engage the player once the player gets close or deals damage to him, but if the player moves too far away he returns to his original position. His behavior changes with distance: he closes in for melee when nearby and fires a cannon when the player is farther away. When reduced to 90% health, he climbs onto his ship and remains there for the rest of the battle.
During the fight, Pirate Recruits and Pirate Parrots spawn, which makes the encounter more dangerous than a simple one-on-one duel. A common way to control the battle is to trap the Pirate Captain in a box and fight him there, but the entire box must stay within the player’s view or additional pirates will spawn elsewhere. After defeat, the Pirate Captain becomes a Broken Pirate and stays in place until recruited into the player’s Settlement.
- Keep distance in mind: he switches between cannon fire and melee depending on how close the player is.
- At 90% health, he moves onto the ship and the fight continues from there.
- Adds pressure through spawned Pirate Recruits and Pirate Parrots.
- If contained in a box, make sure the whole area remains visible to avoid extra pirate spawns.
- Defeating him as an Elder reward gives the Coin Pouch.
