Overview

Nickel is a metallic material used primarily for construction and a few specialized recipes. It has a melting point and specific heat similar to several other common construction metals, and its thermal conductivity is slightly lower than Cobalt. This makes Nickel a solid choice for ordinary buildings, especially when building heat-transfer infrastructure. Among common metals, it also has relatively high radiation resistance, so it is well suited for radiation-shielding buildings.

Nickel can also be used as an ingredient in several fabrication and creature interactions.

  • Duplicants can use Nickel to craft the Atmo Suit.
  • It is used in the production of two types of explosive ammo.
  • Plug Slug and its variants can consume Nickel as food.
    • The standard Plug Slug consumes Nickel at a rate of 60 kg/cycle and produces 3 kg/cycle.
    • The variant consumes Nickel at a rate of 30 kg/cycle and produces 1.5 kg/cycle.

Because of its balance of heat handling and durability-related properties, Nickel is most valuable in situations where a building must tolerate both temperature extremes and radiation exposure.
