Trapping Licence

Overview

The Trapping Licence is a licence that unlocks animal trapping tools and the ability to deliver captured animals for rewards. It becomes available after purchasing the Hunting Licence, and its upgrades expand both the kinds of traps you can craft and how effectively they hold animals.

At Level 1, the Trapping Licence allows the crafting and use of animal traps and animal drop-off points. Captured animals can be brought to an Animal Collection Point, where they are sent to the animal research facility. The trap and the dinks reward are then delivered to the player’s mailbox the next day, or to the host’s house in multiplayer. This makes the licence useful for turning hunting and animal capture into a repeatable source of income rather than simply a way to clear out wildlife.

At Level 2, the licence unlocks advanced animal traps. These are a more durable version that keep aggressive animals contained for longer, and they can also trap and hold non-aggressive animals without needing to injure them first. This makes higher-tier trapping much more flexible, especially when you want to transport animals safely instead of relying on damage-based capture.

A few practical points help make trapping more reliable:

  • Aggressive animals are easier to transport if their health is reduced before capture. Wooden Animal Traps usually require animals to be damaged significantly before they will hold them.
  • Standard Animal Traps are somewhat more forgiving and need less damage to keep an animal contained.
  • Flying birds can be baited into position by placing food on top of the trap: raw meat or chicken works for Magpies, while seed works for Cockatoos.
  • Night hunting is easier with tools that stun animals, such as the Torch or Bat Zapper. Their stun effect does not last long, and animals cannot be stunned again immediately, so it is best to strike quickly or disengage if needed.

Overall, the Trapping Licence is the progression point that turns animal capture into a proper system. Level 1 opens the basic loop of trapping and turning animals in, while Level 2 improves control and makes live capture less dependent on weakening the target first.
