Logging

Overview

The Logging Licence is a licence that unlocks the ability to buy and use axes for tree cutting. It is purchased from Fletch and is tied to the Foraging skill, since character progression in Foraging determines when higher licence levels become available. The first level lets the player buy axes and chop down trees, while later levels unlock better axe crafting.

At level 1, the licence allows the purchase of axes, including the Basic Axe from John’s Goods. Level 2 becomes available at character level 10 and unlocks recipes for a better axe, and level 3 becomes available at character level 20 and unlocks recipes for an even better axe. The Foraging skill also gates related progression: buying Logging Licence 2 unlocks the Brewing Licence, which in turn provides recipes for the Billy Can Kit and the Keg.

Logging itself is straightforward. Select an axe on the toolbelt, stand next to a tree, and hold the attack button to chop it down. A health bar appears on the tree, and once it is depleted the tree falls and drops logs and seeds. Higher quality axes cut tougher trees and do so faster.

Trees and their drops include:

Chopping a tree leaves a stump behind, but the stump will not regrow into a tree. Because of that, it is usually best to remove the stump as well to gain the extra log.

A few practical points make logging more efficient:

  • The Basic Axe is available early, but stronger axes are needed for tougher trees.
  • Upgrading logging access early speeds up wood gathering and tree farming.
  • Trees are a reliable source of both building materials and seeds for replanting.
  • Max stamina benefits for this skill are reached at 85.

Because logging is one of the core gathering activities in Dinkum, the licence is an important early investment for players who want a steady supply of wood, rare tree drops, and the materials needed for more advanced crafting.
