Gum Tree

Gum Tree is a common tree found in the Bushlands and Plains biomes, the yellow and brown regions on the map. It can also appear naturally over time on bushland grass blocks in any biome. Unlike some other games, trees in Dinkum do not regrow from stumps; they only grow from seeds.

A Gum Tree can be cut down with a Basic Axe or better. Felling it yields 3 Gum Logs, or 4 if the stump is also chopped up, along with 1–2 Gum Nuts that can be used for replanting. Mature trees produce more logs and Gum Nuts than immature ones, while immature trees drop only a single log. There is also a low chance for a Bee Hive to appear when a tree is chopped down, though there is no visual sign before cutting which trees contain one.

To grow a new Gum Tree, plant a Gum Nut with a Shovel. Dig a hole, drop the nut into it, then cover it back over with dirt to start the sapling. Gum Nuts can also be planted by dropping them on the ground and placing dirt over them with a Dirt Printer. Trees and plants can be planted in any biome or soil type, so Gum Trees are not restricted to their natural regions once you have seeds.

A Gum Tree takes 5 days to fully mature. The Plant Book can be used on a planted tree to check its growth stage, but once it is fully grown the book no longer shows data for it. Trees can also be moved with Tree Pinchers, or removed entirely with an axe or chainsaw.

Gum Trees are also useful for crafting and decorative furniture. The Gum Log Seat is a starting recipe at the Crafting Table and provides a place to sit, which helps increase health recovery after consuming food or items with health regeneration. NPCs will also use seats of any type. A giant version of the Gum Tree can be grown by burying a Fertiliser bag next to a fully grown tree and sleeping until it transforms; if the tree was grown from a seed, it must first reach full size before it can become giant. Cutting down a giant Gum Tree leaves behind a stump that can be picked up.
