Overview

Banana Tree is a fruit tree found naturally in the Tropics biome, the light green area on the map usually on the north side. Each tree yields 2 bananas per harvest, and fruit can be picked by hand or with the Har-Vac. Like all trees and plants, it can be planted in any biome or soil type.

A banana tree takes 13 days to mature and then produces fruit every 7 days afterward. Using the Plant Book on the tree shows its maturity and fruit reproduction cycle. If a ripe tree is cut down with an axe or chainsaw, it does not drop wood; it only drops the fruit if it was ready to harvest.

New banana trees can be grown by burying a banana fruit in several ways:

  • Dig a hole with the shovel, drop the fruit in, and cover it with the dirt from the shovel.
  • Drop the fruit on the ground, remove the soil from underneath it with the shovel, then replace the soil on top.
  • Drop the fruit on the ground and use a dirt printer over it.

Fruit trees can also be relocated with the Tree Pinchers.

For orchards, many players keep around 10–20 trees in a small setup. A common layout is 2-wide rows with a 1-tile walkway between rows, which works well if different grass or soil types are used between the trees; in Autumn, different mushrooms can grow beneath trees depending on the grass or soil below. Another efficient method is planting trees on every tile, so fallen fruit can bounce to the outside of the last tree in the row, making it easier to collect by running along the edge or using the Har-Vac.
