Crab Pot

Put it in shallow water. Leave it for a day.
Overview
The Crab Pot is a craftable fishing tool used to catch aquatic critters and certain items without active fishing. It becomes available at the Crafting Table after obtaining Fishing Licence Level 3 from Fletch. Once placed correctly, it works over time and can be checked the next day for a catch.
To use a Crab Pot, place it in water that is two tiles deep, deep enough that the player must swim rather than walk. Player-made ponds work as long as the depth is correct. The pot must be baited with either worms or a raw or cooked meat product such as meat, drumstick, or croco meat; seafood does not work as bait. After one full day, the trap will produce a splashing animation and contain a catch. Remove the result and add bait again to continue using it.
What a Crab Pot catches depends on where it is placed. The biome influences the available aquatic critters and items, and critters caught this way count toward Pedia completion. In general, the pot can produce one of several outcomes: an underwater river or ocean critter appropriate to the biome, a relic, a shell in ocean-type biomes, or certain loose items. The possible item results include Old Key, Crocodile Tooth, Thongs, and Jelly.
- Place the pot in two-tile-deep water; shallow water will not work.
- Any bait must be a worm or meat product; seafood is invalid bait.
- Results are collected after one full day.
- Biome matters, so the same pot can yield different critters or items depending on whether it is in river water or ocean water.
- Caught critters contribute to Pedia completion, making the Crab Pot useful for filling out the collection log as well as for gathering materials.
Although the Crab Pot is slow compared with direct fishing, it is a low-effort way to passively gather aquatic catches while you do other tasks. Rebaiting it after each harvest keeps it running continuously, and placing several pots in suitable water can turn a shoreline or pond into a steady source of daily catches.
