Overview

The Magpie is a wild animal in Dinkum found in the Plains. It is a passive creature by default and tends to wander around quite a bit, so it is not usually a major threat unless it is startled. When frightened, it can fly over fences, which makes simple enclosure tactics unreliable.

Magpies will eat a variety of dropped meats, which can be used to draw them in or keep them occupied. They are also not typically considered threatened in the wild because of their flighty behavior and mobility. For players who want to interact with them more safely, it is often easier to approach with care rather than attempt a direct chase.

When a Magpie is killed, it can drop up to three items from a loot pool that includes Feather, Bone, Raw Drumstick, and the rare Maggie Egg. While flying around, it can also periodically drop feathers without being killed, providing another way to gather one of its common materials. These drops make Magpies useful not only as a wildlife encounter but also as a source of bird-related crafting and food items.

For hunting, the various spear types are among the most versatile weapons to use. If you want an easier target, waiting until night and using a Torch or Bat Zapper to stun the Magpie can help with the approach. The Alpha Bat’s flaming projectiles can also be used to hit the animal without startling it, which can make hunting less disruptive.

  • Can drop Feather, Bone, Raw Drumstick, and the rare Maggie Egg on death.
  • Also drops feathers periodically while flying.
  • Spears are effective for hunting; stun tools or the Alpha Bat’s flaming projectiles can make the encounter easier.
