Overview

The Queen Spider is a huge spider boss that can move through walls, making enclosed arenas unsafe unless the fight area is cleared out first. She is normally fought by summoning her in a large, open room that has been dug out and well lit to reduce nearby monster spawns. Because she can travel a long distance while running and can still use some attacks while inside walls, open space is important for dodging and for creating windows to counterattack.

The fight cycles through four main attack phases. In two of them, she is highly mobile and either runs directly at the player or performs a faster charge in a straight line. These attacks are predictable enough to dodge with good timing, especially with movement buffs. In another phase, she stays still and ejects multiple eggs; these hatch into Spider Hatchlings that rush the nearest player. In the remaining non-mobile phase, she spits venom at players. The venom lands on the ground as pools that damage anyone who walks over them, which restricts safe movement and can make the arena gradually harder to navigate.

As her health drops, the Queen Spider’s attacks become faster and she spawns more eggs, increasing pressure throughout the fight. Her venom pools remain dangerous even after she is killed, and if a player dies in one after the boss has already been defeated, the server can still attribute the death to the Queen Spider. This makes it important to avoid lingering in venom-covered areas even when the battle seems over.

Useful notes for the fight:

  • Build a large, open arena and light it well before summoning her.
  • Keep space to sidestep her straight-line runs and charges.
  • Prioritize movement during the egg phase so Spider Hatchlings do not overwhelm you.
  • Avoid standing on venom pools, since they can block movement routes and continue to deal damage after they appear.
  • Because she can perform attacks while inside walls, do not rely on terrain to protect you.

Defeating the Spider Queen and turning in the reward to the Elder grants the Ammo Pouch. Later updates also adjusted the fight: collision damage was reduced from 32 to 28, spit damage was reduced from 28 to 24, and the Frost Piercer summon weapon was added as a new drop in v. 0.21.22.
