Overview

The Upgrade Station is a crafting station used to upgrade armor, weapons, tools, and Gateway Tablets. It is unlocked after building the Fallen Workstation, and serves as the main station for pushing equipment through higher tiers rather than replacing it immediately with new drops.

Its use depends on item type. Upgrade costs scale by tier, but the required materials differ between categories and, in some cases, even between individual items. Weapons and armor can require specific essences, while tools use a more standardized cost pattern. Gateway Tablets also follow their own cost table and keep their Hunt or Extraction type when upgraded, while changing their modifiers and rewards.

  • Armor upgrades require specific Essence, and pieces from the same set can require different essences.
  • Weapons require one specific type of tier 1 and tier 2 Essence depending on the weapon. Some weapons also have additional fixed requirements at higher tiers.
  • Tools use the same general tier cost pattern, with tier 4 to 6 requiring Any Tier 1 Essence and tier 7 to 8 requiring Any Tier 2 Essence.
  • Gateway Tablets keep their type when upgraded, but their tier, modifiers, and rewards change.

Typical upgrade costs shown in the upgrade tables are:

  • Armor: tier 2 costs 40, tier 3 costs 60, tier 4 costs 80, tier 5 costs 100, tier 6 costs 120, tier 7 costs 140, tier 8 costs 160, tier 9 costs 180, tier 10 costs 200.
  • Weapons: tier 2 costs 60, tier 3 costs 90, tier 4 costs 120, tier 5 costs 150, tier 6 costs 180, tier 7 costs 210, tier 8 costs 240, tier 9 costs 270, tier 10 costs 300.
  • Tools: tier 2 costs 60, tier 3 costs 90, tier 4 costs 120, tier 5 costs 150, tier 6 costs 180, tier 7 costs 210, tier 8 costs 240, tier 9 costs 270, tier 10 costs 300.
  • Gateway Tablets: tier 2 costs 25, tier 3 costs 50, tier 4 costs 75, tier 5 costs 100, tier 6 costs 125, tier 7 costs 150, tier 8 costs 175, tier 9 costs 200, tier 10 costs 225.

For progression, the Upgrade Station is especially valuable for keeping a favored item relevant as higher tiers become available. Early-game items often need more Upgrade Shard to reach tier 1, while tier 2 through tier 10 costs remain consistent for each item type.
