Overview

Crushed Ice exchanges heat with other materials and buildings in its own tile, as well as with the tile directly below it. This heat exchange continues even in a vacuum, so placing it in an evacuated area does not stop it from sharing temperature with adjacent solids.

A notable exception is that Crushed Ice does not exchange heat with an Airflow Tile or Mesh Tile if the tile’s internal element is a vacuum. Neutronium is also exempt, since its thermal conductivity is 0. The behavior with Abyssalite is not clearly established by the source material.

In practice, this means Crushed Ice behaves like a solid thermal participant rather than an insulated remnant. It can still transfer heat downward through the tile beneath it, so its temperature can be affected by whatever it sits on top of. That makes its placement relevant in builds where temperature control matters, especially when it is sitting over conductive or temperature-sensitive tiles.
