Adze

The Adze is a workbench improvement used to upgrade the Workbench when placed within 2 meters of it. It is a crafting upgrade rather than a standalone workstation, so its main purpose is to increase the crafting tier available at a base. Once positioned correctly, it contributes to the Workbench’s upgrade level without needing any direct interaction afterward.

It is unlocked after obtaining Finewood and Bronze. To place it, use the Hammer in the Crafting tab. A nearby Forge is required to build the Adze, but the Forge does not need to remain nearby for it to function afterward.

Because it must be within range of the Workbench, the Adze is best treated as part of a compact early-base crafting area. Place it close enough to the Workbench to register as an upgrade while also leaving room for other improvements later. Since it is tied to the Workbench rather than combat or exploration, its value is mostly in expanding what can be crafted and repaired at a settlement.
