Deer Hide

A cleaned hide from a deer.
Overview
Deer hide is a crafting material obtained mainly from deer in the Meadows and Black Forest. It is one of the early game hides and is used in a wide range of basic leather, weapon, armor, and building recipes, making it a key resource for early progression.
Deer drop 1 hide normally, 2 from 1-star deer, and 4 from 2-star deer. Deer hide can also be found in chests in troll caves, and it can be looted by destroying or dismantling fuling structures and roof pieces in the Plains, including buildings in fuling villages and fuling tree houses. In addition, goblin camps may contain tanning racks that can be broken down for deer hide.
Because deer are skittish, the easiest way to farm deer hide is to approach quietly and use a bow or a stealth attack before the animal detects you. Once alerted, deer will flee and keep running until they are no longer threatened, so patience and careful positioning matter more than speed. Deer are often easier to locate by listening for their distinctive cry.
Deer hide is used in crafting for:
- Leather gear such as the Leather Helmet, Leather Tunic, and Leather Pants
- The Deer hide Cape
- Early weapons and upgrades including the Crude Bow and the Finewood Bow
- Forge items such as the Bronze Spear, Bronze Helmet, Bronze plate armor pieces, Iron Helmet, Iron leggings, Iron Greaves, Iron Scale Mail, and Huntsman Bow
- Building and furniture pieces such as the Tanning Rack, Deer rug, Dragon Bed, Bellows, Karve, Longship, and several thrones and decorative chairs
Its broad recipe list means that deer hide remains useful well beyond the opening hours of the game, especially for players moving from starter leather equipment into bronze and iron-era crafting.
