Ancient Bark

Ancient bark is a swamp wood resource obtained mainly by chopping Ancient Trees with a bronze axe or better. It can also be found in chests inside Sunken Crypts. Ancient Trees grow exclusively in the Swamp, and they can also be broken by Abominations, which makes them a secondary source of bark even without cutting them down yourself.

When harvested, Ancient Trees drop a mix of Wood and Ancient bark, with the total amount from a tree averaging out to 10 pieces between the two. The stump can also be chopped for a small amount of Wood. Because the trees are located in the swamp, many players raise the ground while harvesting to avoid being harassed by Leeches.

Ancient bark is used in a number of mid- and late-game recipes, especially weapons, shields, and swamp-era structures. Known uses include:

Ancient bark cannot be processed in a Charcoal Kiln.
