Mountaineer
Overview
Mountaineer is an Order soldier encountered as a hostile humanoid enemy. Like other Order troops, it may appear standing still or patrolling with other soldiers, and it will attack entities, robots, and the player on sight. It behaves as a ranged combatant that periodically tries to create distance, which makes it more dangerous in open spaces than in cramped corridors.
In combat, ranged weapons are effective against Mountaineer because it keeps trying to move away from the player. Shields can block both its shots and its melee attacks, making them a strong defensive option when closing the gap. If you want its helmet to come off, you must hit it in the head with a blunt or heavy weapon, or shoot the helmet off; sharp weapons and explosives do not work for that purpose. A helmet can still be knocked off even after the Mountaineer has died.
Mountaineer can drop the following items:
- Human Skull — 100%
- Human Arm (Military) — 50%
- Mountaineer Armguards — 10%
- Mountaineer Chestplate — 10%
- Mountaineer Leggings — 10%
- Patois Rifle — 100%
- 5.56 Ammo — 100% of 2, 50% of 2–5
- Kevlar Scrap — 100%
- Military Electronics — 60%
- Cracked Shoulder Light — 50%
- Alpine Pack — 10%
- Military M.R.E. — 2%
- Cloth Scrap — 1%
Because the rifle and ammunition are guaranteed drops, Mountaineer is a reliable source of early military-grade firepower and 5.56 ammo. The armor and equipment drops are much less consistent, but they make it worth farming if you need defensive gear or salvage materials. Its humanoid corpse loot also includes unusual organic drops such as a Human Skull and Human Arm (Military), which are part of its standard loot table rather than special drops.
One notable trivia point is that Mountaineer does not have a Compendium entry, unlike many other Order enemies. It is generally treated as part of the Triarii (Grunts) category.
