The Moving Box
DESIGNATION: Sanc (AV/HL/IN)
CONTAINMENT PROTOCOLS: Attempts to contain or confine IS-0247 have been unsuccessful to date. While conventional architecture may restrict the entity's movement for hours at a time, it will eventually remove itself even from Jura-level containment locations. No known perforation-dampening systems have impeded its movements.
Hypothesized to be an artificial creation, IS-0247 has a noted tendency to accompany and mimic certain upright bipedal organisms. It was first identified in the GATE Cascade Research Facility following the original Transrecon expedition to Anteverse 1, appearing to have followed the TR team home.
The entity will store items placed within it for an indefinite period. Its inner storage capacity is known to exceed its outer dimensions, suggesting non-Euclidean internal workings. While this has the potential for utility, the irregularity of IS-0247's appearances is a limiting factor.
Overview
The Moving Box is a rare roaming entity, designated IS-0247, that can appear at almost any location in the facility. It behaves like a mobile container with a storage capacity of 6 slots, and items placed inside it remain stored indefinitely. Although it is an anomalous creature rather than a normal container, its internal space exceeds its outer size, making it useful as an impromptu cache or field supply box while exploring.
When present, IS-0247 wanders around the player’s area and loosely follows the path the player has taken. If it finds loose items on the ground and has empty inventory space, it will pick them up and “eat” them, placing them into its inventory. Interacting with the box opens its mouth, implying that items are being stored in its stomach. Because its inventory persists between appearances, players can fill it while out in the field and retrieve the contents later when it appears back at base.
Despite its usefulness, attempts to contain or confine IS-0247 have not been successful. Conventional structures may keep it in place for a while, but it eventually leaves even heavily restricted areas, and perforation dampening systems do not stop it. The entity is described as having a tendency to accompany and mimic upright bipedal organisms, and it was first identified at the GATE Cascade Research Facility after the original Transrecon expedition to Anteverse 1.
Its unpredictable appearance makes it unreliable as a permanent storage solution, but it can be extremely valuable in the moment. Common uses include:
- emergency medical storage by filling it with healing items
- carrying crafting materials such as a crafting bench
- holding a charging station or field batteries
- storing ammunition
- keeping drinks and non-refrigerated food
- carrying portable toilets or cots for longer expeditions into remote areas
IS-0247 is a daytime entity and falls asleep at night. If the player crouches while it is following or looking at them, it will crouch as well. During an assault event, it crouches and trembles with fear. It can also interact with a Pet Bed and sleep on it if it gets close enough.
