Overview

Heat Stroke is a temperature-based disease that can affect Duplicants after exposure to hot environments. On asteroids such as Oceania, where Duplicants are specifically noted as being temperature sensitive and able to develop temperature-based diseases, it is a practical hazard whenever a colony pushes into overheated regions or works near heat sources without protection.

While afflicted, a Duplicant suffers -5 Science, -5 Machinery, -5 Cuisine, and -5 Construction for 180 seconds. The disease also applies an athletics penalty, so even a short exposure can slow work and make the Duplicant less effective until the condition clears. Since the duration is only 0.3 cycles, the main concern is usually the temporary productivity loss rather than long-term harm.

The easiest way to prevent Heat Stroke is to keep Duplicants out of hot environments unless they are properly equipped. Atmo Suits and Jet Suits are the standard protection for extended work in dangerous temperatures. In areas where heat exposure is unavoidable, setting up Triage Cots with low thresholds helps remove the athletics penalty faster. The Regenerative trait is also useful, since health regeneration removes the athletics penalty over time at a rate of 20 hp per cycle.

Heat management is not a major issue on Oceania compared with some other asteroid types, but that does not make Duplicants immune to overheating. The asteroid still contains hot regions such as the Volcanic Biome and resources like Crude Oil in the Oil Biome, so colonies that expand downward or into industrial zones can still trigger temperature-related diseases if they ignore insulation and suit coverage.

  • Heat Stroke is a short-duration debuff, but it directly hurts several core work skills at once.
  • Prevent it by limiting exposure to heat and using proper suit protection.
  • Triage Cots and the Regenerative trait can shorten the practical impact once a Duplicant is already affected.
  • On Oceania, the disease is part of the broader temperature-sensitive colony experience rather than a uniquely common map hazard.
