Snow

Snow is a solid element used mainly as a cold resource in Oxygen Not Included. It is available in Spaced Out! via renewable space POIs, and it can also be produced with the Ice Maker. Because it is a cold material rather than a refined industrial product, it is most often encountered as part of frozen environments or as a byproduct of cooling-focused production chains.

Snow can be harvested on rocket missions from renewable Space POIs, specifically Frozen Ore Asteroid Fields, at a rate of 116.6–349.9 kg per cycle. In Spaced Out!, the Ice Maker gained a recipe for making Snow, giving colonies a local source once the required setup is available. This makes Snow one of the few elements that can be gathered from both exploration and manufacturing.

• It is renewable when collected from Frozen Ore Asteroid Fields.
• The Ice Maker can produce Snow after the recipe is unlocked/available in the expansion content.
• Its main value comes from its association with cold-temperature systems rather than from direct industrial processing.

Snow is also tied to Science progression indirectly through the systems used to train Duplicants. Science can be increased by running Research errands at Research Stations or by analyzing Geysers, and in Spaced Out! the Botanical Analyzer provides a renewable source of Science experience. Since Science affects attribute leveling, it is often worth training early on a dedicated researcher, especially if that Duplicant has Science-related interests or bonuses.

Relevant Science-related bonuses and penalties include Quick Learner, Slow Learner, Early Bird, Night Owl, Duress to impress, Balloon Buddy, Soda Fountain, Dead Tired: Snoring Friend, Heat Stroke, Hypothermia, and The Spores. A Duplicant with higher Science levels gains all attribute experience faster, so a strong Science specialist can accelerate long-term colony development even after research is finished.
