Overview

Phosphorite is a solid resource produced by Dreckos and Glossy Dreckos, which excrete 10 kg and 9 kg per cycle respectively. It is a useful mid-game material with several agricultural, ranching, medical, and decorative applications.

Its most prominent industrial use is in the Fertilizer Synthesizer, where it is combined with Polluted Water and Dirt to produce Fertilizer and Natural Gas. The recipe consumes 39 g/s Polluted Water + 65 g/s Dirt + 26 g/s Phosphorite to make 120 g/s Fertilizer + 10 g/s Natural Gas. This makes Phosphorite part of a renewable fertilizer chain as long as the other inputs are available.

Phosphorite is also a plant fertilizer. Domestically grown Pincha Pepperplants consume 1 kg per cycle, and domestically grown Wheezeworts consume 4 kg per cycle. Because of these heavy requirements, a stable supply is usually tied to Drecko ranching or other dedicated production.

Several critters can eat Phosphorite, including Shine Bugs, Sun Bugs, Royal Bugs, Coral Bugs, and Azure Bugs. This makes it useful as both feed and bait: it can be placed in Airborne Critter Bait to attract those critters into a desired area. In ranching setups, it can help control bug movement or support critter populations that consume it.

Phosphorite also has a medical application. Duplicants with the Medicine Compounding skill can use it at an Apothecary together with Balm Lily Flower to produce Medical Pack, which is used to cure Slimelung. The recipe consumes 1 kg Balm Lily Flower + 1 kg Phosphorite per 1 Medical Pack.

A more unusual use comes from its molten form. Because liquid phosphorus has a relatively high freezing point, Phosphorite can be melted into liquid and then dripped into place to create “natural” tiles. This is especially useful for Parks and Nature Reserves, or for shaping terrain in builds that rely on Pips to plant seeds naturally.
