Natural Gas

Natural Gas is a gaseous resource used as a fuel and industrial feedstock. It is burned in the Natural Gas Generator to produce power, and it is also consumed by the Gas Range to cook high-quality food. In addition, the Dehydrator uses it when processing certain advanced foods.

A Natural Gas Generator consumes 90 g/s of Natural Gas and produces 800 W of power, along with 67.5 g/s Polluted Water and 22.5 g/s Carbon Dioxide. The Gas Range consumes 100 g/s Natural Gas while cooking and also emits 25 g/s Carbon Dioxide. The Dehydrator consumes 20 g/s Natural Gas when dehydrating the foods it processes.

Natural Gas is produced from several sources in the base game and in Spaced Out!:

• Natural Gas Geysers are the main renewable source.
• Oil Refinery produces 90 g/s Natural Gas while refining Crude Oil into Petroleum.
• Oil Well produces 33.3 g/s Natural Gas alongside Crude Oil.
• Condensing Sour Gas yields Methane, which vaporizes into Natural Gas.
• Gassy Moos excrete 16.65 g/s Natural Gas after eating Gas Grass.
• Fertilizer Synthesizer emits 10 g/s Natural Gas as a by-product.
• Duplicants with the Flatulent trait emit bursts of Natural Gas every 10 to 40 seconds.
• In Spaced Out!, Natural Gas can also be harvested on some rocket missions to renewable space points of interest, including Exploded Gas Giants, Exploded Ice Giants, and Oily Asteroid Fields.

For large-scale use, Natural Gas is usually paired with a reliable supply chain and gas handling infrastructure, since its main consumers are continuous and rate-sensitive. Flatulent duplicants can contribute meaningfully only with enough population to smooth out the bursts, and their output is still best treated as a supplemental source rather than a primary one.
