Bog Bucket

Overview
Bog Bucket is a food crop that grows from Polluted Water and produces Bog Jelly on harvest. A mature plant takes 6.6 cycles to grow and yields 1840 kcal of Bog Jelly per harvest. The raw crop can be eaten directly, though it has terrible food quality, or processed into Swampy Delights with no additional resource cost. Swampy Delights uses the same 1840 kcal of Bog Jelly and produces 2240 kcal of food.
Bog Bucket is one of the most useful early sources of edible calories from polluted water because it is the only food plant that consumes Polluted Water and can be planted in a Planter Box instead of requiring a Hydroponic Farm. This makes it a convenient sink for bottled polluted water generated by Wash Basins and Algae Terrariums, especially in the early game when infrastructure is still limited.
A few practical numbers matter when planning a farm:
- Feeding a Duplicant on raw Bog Jelly requires about 3.6 Bog Buckets per cycle.
- Feeding a Duplicant on Swampy Delights requires about 2.95 Bog Buckets per cycle.
- For a crew of 8, that works out to roughly 29 Bog Buckets for raw use or 24 Bog Buckets if cooked.
- At that scale, raw feeding requires 1160 kg of Polluted Water per cycle, while cooking the harvest lowers the demand to 960 kg per cycle.
Bog Jelly can also carry Food Poisoning if the ingredients used to grow or process it were contaminated. This means polluted-water handling should be kept clean if the crop is part of a reliable food chain. The plant also provides a temporary germ resistance effect: it grants +1 germ resistance for 2 cycles, even though the in-game text says it must be taken daily.
Because Bog Bucket is tied to polluted water rather than clean water, it is best treated as a practical support crop rather than a high-end food source. Its main strengths are accessibility, low infrastructure requirements, and the ability to convert otherwise awkward polluted water into calories early in a colony’s development. Its main weakness is that even the cooked product is still only a modest food option compared with stronger late-game crops.
