Bonbon Tree

Bonbon Tree is a plant that produces Nectar directly into its trunk when its branches are lit. It is found in the Nectar Biome, can also appear from Icy Nectar Meteor Showers, and its seeds can be obtained from Care Packages after Cycle 24 or from Spigot Seals. Unlike most plants, it does not produce a harvest item that can be used to create more seeds on its own.

A Bonbon Tree trunk matures in 4.5 cycles, or 18 cycles if wild, and each branch also takes 4.5 cycles domestically or 18 cycles in the wild to mature. The tree does not self-harvest when it ages. It has fixed branch positions: five branches can grow in the top-left, top-middle, top-right, middle-left, and middle-right tiles relative to the trunk. The trunk does not require light, but branches need at least 300 Lux to grow, and Nectar production only begins when there is at least one mature branch receiving light.

Each lit mature branch contributes to trunk production, up to a maximum of 80 kg/cycle for a domesticated tree and 20 kg/cycle for a wild tree. Production scales with illuminance and caps at 10,000 Lux; sunlight alone is not always enough to keep the tree at full output because it is only present part of the cycle and varies over time. The trunk stores Nectar and can output it through the tile above the root once it has at least 20 kg stored, or it can be harvested by a Duplicant with the Crop Tending skill to bottle the Nectar. Spigot Seals can drink directly from the trunk.

• Bonbon Tree branches never self-harvest; they remain mature until manually harvested.
• Branches can be uprooted, and unlike Arbor Tree branches they are fixed to specific locations.
• Farmer’s Touch improves trunk and branch growth rate, but does not increase Nectar production.
• Harvesting the branches yields Wood, and the tree is much less productive for lumber than an Arbor Tree.
• A mature branch can be buried by unstable solid tiles for 5 seconds and will dig them out automatically.
• Wild trees produce Nectar at one quarter of the domesticated rate under the same lighting conditions.
