Diamond

Overview
Diamond is a solid element valued for its exceptional thermal conductivity and very high melting point. It is one of the best materials for making Tempshift Plates, since those buildings benefit from rapid heat transfer without risking an early melt. Its +100% decor modifier also makes it useful for Window Tiles and Aero Pots, where the decor bonus matters. Diamond can also be used in the Monument Top as one of its required materials.
Diamond has a few other specialized uses. It can be fed to Radiant Bugs, and it is a valid ingredient for Airborne Critter Bait to attract them. In Spaced Out!, the Drillcone consumes Diamond while operating, and the Diamond Press can produce Diamond from Refined Carbon and Radbolts. The Ancient Specimen story trait turns Diamond into Fossil after completion at a rate of 1 kg Diamond to 100 kg Fossil.
- Diamond increases overheat temperature by 200 °C, but this has no practical effect for its current building uses, since none of the affected buildings have an overheat temperature.
- Its thermal conductivity is high enough that it is especially well suited to heat-spreading applications.
- Compared with real-world diamond, its in-game thermal conductivity is far lower; the material is still notable for being one of the strongest conductors available to the colony.
