Tofu

Tofu is a basic edible ingredient that is produced in the Microbe Musher from 6 Nosh Bean and 50 kg of water per unit. It serves as a simple early food item, and it can also be used as an ingredient for further cooking. Inside the Gas Range, Tofu can be cooked into Spicy Tofu.

Because the Microbe Musher transfers germs from its inputs into its output, the state of the water matters when making Tofu. If the water used in the recipe is contaminated with Food Poisoning germs, the resulting Tofu can carry that germ and may infect a Duplicant who eats it.

In practice, Tofu is most useful when a colony has a reliable supply of Nosh Bean and clean water, since it converts those resources directly into food. Its main strengths are simplicity and accessibility: it requires only a single processor and does not need any advanced cooking setup. The downside is that it is not a particularly efficient end product on its own, so colonies that have access to a Gas Range will usually prefer to turn it into Spicy Tofu for a better meal.
