Nosh Bean

Nosh Bean is a basic farmed food crop that grows from Nosh Sprout. It can be planted in Planter Boxes, Farm Tiles, and Hydroponic Farms, and a mature plant yields 12 Nosh Bean when harvested. In practice, it is one of the renewable food sources tied to the Rust Biome, and it can also be found in Buried Objects there rather than only by farming.

Nosh Bean is obtained by harvesting or uprooting Nosh Sprout, or by digging up Buried Objects within a Rust Biome. If the chosen asteroid type does not generate a Rust Biome, there is no way to obtain new Nosh Bean that way, and once all existing beans have spoiled or been eaten, they cannot be replenished. For long-term storage, Nosh Bean can be preserved indefinitely if kept in a deep-frozen environment.

As a food ingredient, Nosh Bean is not edible raw, but it is useful in several recipes. It can be processed into Tofu in the Microbe Musher, then combined further in a Gas Range for higher-value meals. The known food conversions are:

• 6 Nosh Bean + 50 kg Water → 3600 kcal Tofu
• 3600 kcal Tofu + 1 Pincha Peppernut → 4000 kcal Spicy Tofu
• 4 Nosh Bean + 4 Nutrient Bar → 5000 kcal Curried Beans

Because it is a crop ingredient rather than a direct meal, Nosh Bean is most valuable when part of a cooked food chain. Its calorie output per bean depends on the recipe used, with outputs ranging from 600 kcal per bean in some dishes up to 1250 kcal per bean in the highest-value recipe listed.

Nosh Bean also serves as critter food. Since the February 2024 QoL Update, Pacu can eat 1 Unit per cycle. Bammoth can also consume either harvested Nosh Bean or direct Nosh Sprout growth, making the crop relevant both for food production and ranching. Feeding the plant directly requires more careful farm planning, while harvesting the beans gives a more straightforward stored food supply.

In short, Nosh Bean is a Rust Biome crop with limited world availability, strong preservation potential under freezing, and broad utility as both an ingredient and a critter feed.
